“Life in the Age of Rembrandt:
Dutch Masterpieces from the
Dordrecht Museum”
Columbus Museum of Art
(616) 221-6801 • columbusmuseum.org
The Columbus Museum of Art and the Dordrecht Museum created a unique international partnership to celebrate the remarkable treasures of both museums through a series of multiple – year exchanges. The first major collaborative project is the dramatic exhibition, “Life in the Age of Rembrandt: Dutch Masterpieces from the Dordrecht Museum,” organized expressly for the Columbus Museum of Art. Spanning more than three centuries, the exhibition features 17th-century art from the Golden Age of Dutch painting. This exclusive exhibition, shown only in Ohio, showcases some 40 masterworks, paired with a related object such as
a coin, Delftware or silver. During the 17th century, Dutch art was a mirror of daily life in Holland. The so-called “little masters” specialized in specific types of subjects — portraits, landscapes, still lifes and genre scenes or depictions of everyday life. These paintings
were owned by members of Holland’s prosperous middle class. Artists represented in the exhibition include Jan van Goyen (landscape), Willem van de Velde (ships), Caspar Netscher (portraiture) and Jacob Cuyp (still life).
