       America’s
Music
By William J. Purpura
The Tennessee Music Pathways trail makes it easy to get lost in the sights and sounds of country music history.
I shared my boyhood home with plenty of great music. Mom loved
to play her collection of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Peter, Paul
and Mary records. The only time we were ever exposed to country music was during the handful of “Hee Haw” and “Midwestern Hayride” TV episodes we were forced to watch. (Back then there were only three channels to choose from.) Those TV shows shaped our view of the music genre and it wasn’t a pleasant vision. But somewhere along the way, country music changed and stole our hearts.
