But for the ultimate in Alaska immersion, you cannot beat an Alaska Cruisetour with Princess. These 10- to 15-day adventures all include a seven-day, one-way Voyage of the Glaciers Cruise either from Whittier, Alaska, to Vancouver or Vancouver to Whittier (near Anchorage). The cruise visits two glaciers, sails through the Gulf of Alaska and calls on the Alaskan ports of Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau, the state’s capital. All of the Cruisetours spend at least two days in the Denali area where you can take in the views of the highest point in North America. You also could add on to your Cruisetour and plan a visit to the Denali National Park where more tours are available. All the Cruisetours make use of a Princess’ Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service, taking guests from Anchorage to Denali on Princess trains as part of an agreement with Alaska Railroad. And the Cruisetours also visit Fairbanks, Alaska, or the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, depending on which one you choose.
And then there is the cruise, which will either be before or after your tour. If you sail after your tour, your Voyage of
the Glaciers sailing will leave Anchorage and sail across the Gulf of Alaska to Hubbard Glacier. The next “stop” is Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve as Princess is one of the few cruise lines permitted to cruise in these exquisite waters. Next, you will visit Skagway, Alaska, the gateway
to the Yukon, where you can learn about the Alaska Gold Rush. The next day, the ship will stop in Juneau, Alaska, the state’s capital and home to the Mendenhall Glacier. And finally, your last Alaska stop will be Ketchikan, where you can take in a lumberjack show or visit Totem Bight State Park or the Misty Fjords National Monument. You will then have a full day of cruising the Inside Passage before arriving in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Whichever Alaska experience you decide to choose, make sure to give yourself some time to explore the cities you will embarking from and disembarking from, if you can. Anchorage, Seattle and Vancouver have more to explore than you can in just an afternoon or day.
