Strasbourg also features the Grande Île, an island that is the center of the city and is home to Strasbourg Cathedral, Place Kléber and other centuries-old houses and buildings which have become tourist attractions. The Grande Île was named a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1988 and there are 22 brass plates on the bridges entering it to mark the honor.
