AAA experts share their views on AAA today
For many motorists, finding an honest mechanic is tough.
A recent AAA survey found that two out of three Americans don’t trust auto repair shops in general – citing overcharges, recommendations for unnecessary services and poor
past experiences for their lack of confidence. The research also showed that 75 million drivers haven’t found a reliable repair facility, leaving them out in the cold when car trouble strikes.
No one plans to have vehicle problems. However, emergencies do happen – and usually at the most inopportune times. That’s why members are advised to find a repair shop before issues occur. And it’s why members should get
to know the valued AAA-Approved Auto Repair and AAA Club-Owned Repair network.
Created more than 40 years ago, the repair network includes nearly 7,000 facilities across North America. Once a shop meets AAA’s high standards – including certifications, technical training, cleanliness, financial stability and insurance coverage – it’s visited quarterly, reinspected annually and monitored for ongoing customer satisfaction.
Members receive special benefits when selecting a AAA-approved facility, including priority service, discounts on repairs, aid in securing alternate transportation, free vehicle inspections, assistance with dispute resolutions and more.
The Connected Car
With today’s cars collecting a variety of data about vehicle health, drivers need a trusted repair facility more than ever. Connected cars that have built-in diagnostic capabilities can alert drivers to vehicle trouble and help repair shops quickly and accurately address issues.
Brian Pratt
Vice President Automotive Services, AAA Ohio Auto Club
According to the recent AAA survey, the majority of U.S. drivers want the ability to direct their vehicle’s data to the repair shop of their choice. While this data can be useful in troubleshooting vehicle issues, AAA believes that sharing the collected data should always be done at the direction of the consumer. AAA advocates its Consumer Rights for Car Data to help ensure consumers are afforded the rights of transparency, choice and security as vehicle technology continues to evolve.
October is Car Care Month
With winter looming, AAA recommends that motorists take some time to ensure their vehicle is in top condition before the cold and snow arrive. Call to make
an appointment at your local AAA-Approved Auto Repair or Club-Owned Repair facility. Weak batteries and worn tires will lead to unwanted breakdowns during the winter months.
During the month of October,
the Ohio Auto Club will once again be hosting its free Girl’s Night at the Garage events at each of our 10 Columbus area Car Care Plus locations. Bring your friends and learn about maintaining fluid levels, tires and batteries. To learn more, go to AAA.com/girlsnight. Space is limited so sign up today!
