While the Dewar Trophy established Cadillac’s reputation as a reliable manufacturer, it is its constant innovation that has made it the premier luxury car brand on the market for more than a century. Cadillac was the first to implement the fixed roof as a standard feature when it did so with the Model H. Another early innovation earned Cadillac a second Dewar Trophy in 1913 when, the year before, it became the first automotive company to incorporate an electrical system into its cars resulting in the first electric starter and electric lights. The electric starter made the standard – and dangerous – practice of hand cranking cars to start them obsolete.
Since then, Cadillac has often been at the forefront of automotive innovation featuring such firsts as automatically dimming headlights, fully automatic heating and air conditioning and variable displacement in its engines.
The design of Cadillac has changed dramatically in its
117 years of existence; however, the design shift brings
world today and its frequently changing style has reflected the state of the country.
