The City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is known by various names (Hogtown, the Queen City, City of Churches, etc.), but for many, it has become the city
of festivals. And in late summer and early fall, the city is full of them.
O
pening Sept. 6, the Toronto International Film Festival will run for the next 11 days and nights and is considered the world’s largest publicly attended
film festival. For the past six years, the winner of the festival’s Grolsch People’s Choice Award has

gone on to earn an Academy Award nomination for best picture later that award season. The festival usually features hundreds of full-length feature and documentary films and many short films, a majority of them making their world premiere. For more information, visit www.tiff.net.
The Word on The Street, being held on Sept. 23 outside the Harbourfront Centre, turns Toronto into the world’s largest outdoor bookstore and, best of all, it’s free. The festival showcases more than 200 authors on various stages and features more than 250 book and magazine
