Since 1920, AAA School Safety Patrol students have volunteered their time to help ensure their peers make it to and from school safely. Each year, more than 679,000 elementary and intermediate school patrollers at more than 35,000 schools wear the familiar ’Lectric Lime belts or vests proudly.
AAA Ohio Auto Club started the AAA School Safety Patrol Scholarship Program during the 1988-1989 school year to give back to a select number of former AAA School Safety Patrol members by helping them further their education.
“AAA Ohio Auto Club is honored to recognize and celebrate these remarkable young women and men
as they move toward promising futures,” said Kellie O’Riordan, Traffic Safety program manager at AAA Ohio Auto Club. “This year was especially bittersweet, as we weren’t able to celebrate these graduates in person, but we were able to honor them remotely. We thank these former patrol members for their service and
look forward to great things from them in their future careers.”
To apply, students must complete an application, provide at least one written letter of recommendation and write a 500-word essay on how their experience in the AAA School Safety Patrol has influenced their lives. Hundreds of Ohio students applied for this year’s scholarship.
